Designing a home that serves you, your family, and god

Once you dive into the wonderfully complex (or not so complex) world of salsas you will never reach for that jar of unknowns again! The key to any good homemade salsa is balance. With this recipe we chose to balance the flavors with the addition of a little “Italian” with some garlic. We also chose to use lemon for the acidic flavor to balance the heat instead of the customary lime. But most importantly we used all organic ingredients which mean it is chemical free and NonGMO! Let’s get started!

  • 1 cup diced onions about ½ of a large onion

  • ½ teaspoon oregano
  • teaspoons sea salt more or less to taste
  • 2 teaspoons Hot Sauce more or less to taste
Instructions
  1. Start by roughly chopping the tomatoes, jalapeños, garlic, and onions. Be very careful while handling the peppers. (Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and hot water after handling and avoid touching your eyes for several hours.)
  2. Place in a serving bowl. Add all seasonings, making sure to taste test as you add to determine if you need to add more. If the jalapeños make the salsa too hot, add some more chopped tomato.
  3. Next add in your acid with the lemon. Be sure to do a taste test to determine if more is needed.
  4. Lastly add hot sauce. It is suggested to use 2 teaspoons for a medium heat. Add more or less to adjust the heat.
Recipe Notes

Let sit for an hour for the flavors to combine and serve with chips, tortillas, tacos, burritos, tostadas, quesadillas, pinto or black beans.

*When using fresh jalapeño peppers always taste first before adding! Some peppers are hotter than others.

All ingredients are labeled organic and were found at Whole Foods Market.
