Hey, everyone! Welcome back to another episode of Avelyn Lane: All Roads Lead Home where we discuss topics like Faith, Family, Home, Health, and Homeschooling! I'm Jessica, and today we’re diving into a topic that can sometimes feel like a big ol’ weight on our shoulders—money. But what if I told you financial peace is not just about balancing a checkbook? What if I told you it's actually biblical? Yup, today we’re chatting about how to find financial peace and why it matters in our walk of faith.

Now, before we get started, go ahead and grab your coffee—or tea, if that’s your thing—and get settled in. We're about to tackle those numbers with a little bit of humor, a little bit of faith, and a whole lot of peace. Trust me, this will be more enjoyable than your last trip to the bank!

Segment 1: The Root of Financial Peace – Trusting God

First off, let’s lay the foundation for why financial peace is important. It all starts with trust. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.’

Money can be a source of stress for many, right? Whether you’re paying bills, saving for the future, or navigating debt, it can feel overwhelming. But God calls us to trust Him, not just in the ‘big stuff’ but in our everyday finances too. And that trust leads to peace.

Now, I get it—trusting God with our finances can be hard when we can’t see the outcome. It’s like trying to plant a tree in a storm—you're not sure if it's going to take root. But God promises in Psalm 1:3 that ‘the person who trusts in God is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season.’

So, when we trust Him, He provides stability and growth—even in the financial storms. That’s the root of financial peace: trust.

Actionable Step 1: Start with Prayer

Here’s the first action you can take: Start by praying about your finances. Ask God to guide you in your financial decisions, help you trust Him, and give you wisdom. Trusting Him with your finances begins with a daily commitment to seek His will in all things—including your budget.

Segment 2: God’s Plan for Our Finances – Stewardship, Not Ownership

Alright, let’s move on to the next segment. A huge part of financial peace is understanding that everything we have is not really ours—it's God’s. We're just stewards. In Matthew 25:14-30, Jesus tells the Parable of the Talents, where a master gives his servants different amounts of money (or talents). Some servants wisely invested the money, others buried it. The master was pleased with the ones who made the most of what they were given, and he said, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant.’

Here’s the thing—whether we have a little or a lot, we’re called to be good stewards of it. And that means we’re managing what’s been entrusted to us, not hoarding or being wasteful. Financial peace comes when we stop thinking of our money as ours and start thinking of it as God’s.

So, what does that look like practically? Maybe it’s budgeting so we can be generous, or paying down debt so we’re not enslaved by it. But it's about stewardship—managing God’s resources wisely.

Actionable Step 2: Create a Budget That Honors God

Take this next step: Create a simple budget. Don’t overcomplicate it—just start by tracking your income and expenses. Are you spending more than you earn? How much can you allocate for savings or giving back? Try allocating 10% for savings and 10% for tithing. It’s a great way to make sure you’re being a good steward and honoring God with your resources.

Segment 3: Giving First – Honoring God with Our Finances

Now, this one’s a biggie. We hear a lot about giving—whether it’s tithing at church, giving to charity, or just being generous with others. And I want to highlight this because it’s such a powerful principle in finding financial peace.

In Malachi 3:10, God says, ‘Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.’

It’s so easy to think, ‘I’ll give when I have more.’ But God asks us to give first, out of faith. It’s like starting your day with that first cup of coffee—giving Him your best from the get-go, before you see the rest of your day unfold. And when we honor Him with our finances, He promises to bless it. Maybe not in the way we expect, but trust me, He has a way of providing!

Actionable Step 3: Commit to Giving First

Here’s your third step: Commit to giving to God first. Whether it’s tithing at church, giving to a charity, or supporting a friend in need, make giving a priority. Start small if you need to, but make it a habit to give out of faith first, before all the bills and expenses hit. It can make all the difference in shifting your mindset around money.

Segment 4: Let’s Laugh a Little – Money Talk Can Be Fun!

And here’s where we get a little light-hearted because let’s be honest: talking about money doesn’t have to be all serious. Sometimes, we need to laugh at ourselves, right? Like maybe you realized you spent 45 minutes on the phone with your bank because you were pretty sure you were charged twice for that smoothie, and you just wanted your $5 back. Yeah, real ‘financial peace’ moment there, right?

But seriously, money can be a stressful topic, so a little humor can go a long way. It reminds us that at the end of the day, we are not defined by how much we make or don’t make. Our worth comes from Christ. And with Him, we can handle anything, even those embarrassing moments when you accidentally overdraft because of that $5 smoothie.

Actionable Step 4: Keep a Positive Perspective

Here’s the fourth action: Stay positive and laugh at yourself when things don’t go as planned. Money can be stressful, but if we maintain a light-hearted attitude, we’re less likely to get consumed by worry. Whenever you get stressed about money, take a step back, laugh, and remember that God’s got this!

Segment 5: Final Thoughts – Trust, Stewardship, and Peace

Okay, so to wrap up today’s episode, I want to leave you with this: Financial peace is possible, but it starts with trust. Trusting God with our finances, understanding that everything we have is His, and honoring Him with what we’ve been given. And of course, remember, it’s a process—it’s about daily choices and faithfulness. We might not have it all figured out today, but we can keep working toward it, one step at a time.

I want to encourage you today, no matter where you are in your financial journey—whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or even if things are going great—God is with you. He’s your provider, your guide, and He will give you peace if you turn to Him. So, let’s trust Him and keep stewarding His resources with wisdom and generosity.

Closing Thought and Prayer

Before we close, I just want to remind you that peace is available to you, no matter where you are on your financial journey. God doesn’t expect perfection, but He does expect trust and faithfulness. And when we align our finances with His word, we’ll find not just peace in our wallets, but peace in our hearts.

Now, let’s pray together.

Lord, thank You for being our Provider and for guiding us in all areas of our lives, including our finances. We ask for Your wisdom as we seek to be faithful stewards of the resources You’ve entrusted to us. Help us to trust You completely, even when the numbers don’t seem to add up. Teach us to honor You with our giving, and may we always remember that You are our ultimate source of peace. We ask for Your blessing on our finances and on the hearts of those listening today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
