activated_charcoal_main

You may or may not have heard about activated charcoal. What is it? What does it do? How can you use it? There are  many uses and benefits that you may not be aware of so I’m going to share them with you right here!

So how does Activated Charcoal work? Activated charcoal is a super sticky substance like sticky tape. It absorbs all the toxins and chemicals and doesn’t let them go. When the charcoal is washed away so is the toxins and chemicals it stuck to. It latches onto the toxins in your stomach (when ingested) and on the surface when used on your skin.

What does it stick to? “lead acetate, strychnine, DDT, many drugs (including cocaine, iodine, penicillin, aspirin, phenobarbital), and inorganic substances (chlorine, lead, and mercury).” ~ NHH

Side-effects? If you are taking certain kinds of medications you should not use Activated Charcoal internally (taken via pill form).

Who can use it? When used externally as soap, paste, or brushing onto the surface of your skin anyone can use it.

The benefits of Activated Charcoal:

  • Teeth whitening
  • Clears up acne
  • Use as an eyeliner or mascara
  • Reduces stomach aches
  • Face mask
  • Treats bug bites

Where can you find Activated Charcoal? You can purchase activated charcoal in most food stores or big box stores. If you’re looking to use it externally (face mask, makeup, etc.) you can purchase just the powder here.
